¿What is "LA PEÑA DEL HUEVO"?
dedicated to all those who do not know what it is or do not dare to participate in the same.
Some will ask what it is and what's the purpose of the peña del huevo:
The peña was founded... well, the truth is that we don't know for sure,
but it was probably around 1999 by grantees at the time. It's an activity
intended for a very heterogeneous public: predoctoral and postdoctoral
grantees, lab techs, y principal investigatorss.
Some of the peña participants, by their own free will, take charge of
giving a talk (in this context we mean peñistas) for 30-45 minutes, and
here's the most interesting part:
it can be about whatever theme interests the *peñista* - it doesn't have to
be about his or her area of expertise, or neuroscience, and it doesn't even
have to be serious... although of course these topics are always
well-received (each presenter is completely free to select their topic).
The goals of the peña are:
- To gather together different kinds of investigators from the Institute
(therefore we ask for your special assistance in welcoming new members, from
new predoctoral grantees to those that we often see but don't know by name).
- To motivate and favor individual participation in scientific debates, to
challenge ourselves and learn to speak in public, and to ask questions.
- To analyze and comment critically on publications in a relaxed and
enjoyable setting.
It relies on a small subsidy on the part of the host Institute to cover the
cost of food for attendees.
